Default Ever hate music?

Ever hate music? I mean ever just hate it and everything it's done to
you vis-a-vis the study of guitar and all that goes with that? Ever
LOVE music and yet hate it at the same time?

Music must be female.

And I have become an asexual husband.

Went through a 2 year phase where I just didn't want anything to do with it
anymore. Did a degree in computers. Couldn't get a job after graduating.
Came back to musicianship/engineering/producing full time for 2.5 years now
and although the hours suck (my girlfriend is continually wanting to break
up with me!) I'm enjoying it again.

Incidently, how do the engineers here balance work with social/family life.
The hours are so long and ad hoc I'm really strugglin!

I'm sorry, but you used an unfamiliar term here. Could you explain what a
'social/family life' is?

You have to make the decision to just love it. Like any relationship, you
have to work at it and cultivate it. When you listen to music, try listening
to it like you did when you were sixteen. Try Wonder again. If you don't
like music, you can't make music.

Yes, I have loved it/hated it, in (I suppose) the same manner in which a
heroin addict loves/hates his/her addiction. What can you do when you are
powerless to this muse or whatever it is that keeps haunting you even if
you try to leave it behind? In my case, I left it alone for about 7-8
years, and now I'M BACK, DAMMIT!!! LOL It's like Pacino in whatever
edition of those "Godfather" movies where he said: "Every time I think I'm
out... they PULL ME BACK IN AGAIN!!!"

What can I do... Resist? Yes, but then I feel like I'm missing something
vital that was put in my life for a reason. Ignore it? HAH! Please... it's
MUSIC... You know better than that!

Music must be female.

It's a beotch.

OK, now that's just too much personal information there, Nick.

If not Wonder, than all you have to do is put on Saga "On the Loose", or
Billy Joel "The Downeaster 'Alexa' " and if you can't get some visceral...
err... vicseralitude going with either of those (yes, even despite
Tom Lord Alge's kick in the latter... that same kick that seems to hit you
in the esophagus on every song he mixes = anyone else ever notice that?),
then yeah, yer pretty much toast, methinks.

How about just, 'dislike, sometimes' ?

Whenever I am not at work. Silence is *truly* golden.

I meet people once in a while that tried to make a career as a
musician, failed/quit, and never played again. I enjoy making music so
much that I am utterly baffled by this. It probably helps that I've
never had any career expectations.

So , no, I never hate it. I do get tired of writing the same song
over and over. But even that starts me towards something better.

Asexuality or building guitars ?

Building guitars. I have a friend who is an extremely talented wood
worker. I tried to talk him into taking it up and maybe helping him
sell them. He thought the market was too crowded and he's probably
right.

In the late 60's I flipped out very badly on acid. For the next five years I
neither laughed nor cried and music did nothing for me. It's hard to believe
after all these years.

Right. Every decent repair guy or self-taught luthier that I've ever met
ahs ended up working for one of the major manufacturers at one time
or another... and it seem that once those fellows can say that they've
worked for the big guys, they start their own company.
