Hi all,
I'm running a dual boot system and I'm trying to defragment all my drives via Speed Disk. I have no problem taking care of my OS9 disk, however, I'm a little spooked to run Norton on my OSX boot drive....the last time I did, I had to re-install EVERYTHING! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just found this group, and I must say it's great! Thanks Catfish |

Charlie, You da MAN! I have been trying to figure out this osx thing for a year and can't find any get smart files anywhere. Can you direct me to some tutorials or anything that might help me get a little more educated on this system? http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25668 |

You guys are the best.
I've been trying to figure out the osX thing for a while. So shall I keep defraging my audio drives if my Pro Tools and DP files are os9 based? Catfish |

OSX (being UNIX ! based) does it's own defrags on the fly - or more specifically doesn't ! fragment as much. This is why you need about 1GB of unused space for ! OSX to have its enormous swap files. ! ! Instead of running a separate defrag, leave the Mac on overnight every ! now and then (not put to sleep) to let it run some crontabs at about ! 2:00 AM - this will clean out some temp files as well. ! ! Definately back up!!! Bad things can and do happen. Symantec no longer
makes Norton Utilities. I have no proof but I believe they were having issues with Norton System Works and compatibility issues. I've had horrible problems with NSW version 2.0. So maybe the best thing was to not play that game for them. Disk Warrior on the other hand from Alsoft. Every studio should have a copy of that. So when you get the prompt when the desktop loads "This disk cannot be read would you like to initialize it?" click not pop in Disk Warrior and it should take care of it. DW rebuilds your the directory structure of your hard drive. It's awesome. Cheap too. Also the 2 am thing is for real. Leave it on as much as possible. There are cron jobs that run nightly, weekly and monthly. garrett Charlie wrote in message ... In article , (Catfish) wrote: You guys are the best.
