Yes, Jann Wenner and his crew were completely impartial. Not only is
the presence of the magazine's title in the title of the first song and the second song's artist a complete coincidence, but Mr.Wenner is the song arbiter of all time. He has proven that not only is Mr. Robert Allan Zimmerman the greatest songsmith to have ever lived, but that old saps like Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Cahn, Van Heusen, the whole bunch, were nobodies whose lives were spent in vain. The 500 songs selected by Wenner and co. are the five hundred greatest songs ever written anywhere anytime or which may ever be written. |

I'd certainly rank that song in the top 20, if not the top 10. Likewise. I'd like to see Holidays in the Sun in there too. Well, for me, there's only room for one Pistols song, in the top 100 at least, as much as I like their stuff. When compiling a list like that, you have to prioritize, since there are so many great songs to choose from. If I were FORCED to choose another Pistols song, it wouldn't be Holidays in the Sun. It would probably be Pretty Vacant, but, then that's a cultural divide, I suspect. Of course, if I had been one of those middle-class 'mericans whose family wintered and springed in Florida, I might feel differently. I'm sure that for UK'ers who were draggd to Ibiza year after year, it's a diffrent kettle of calimari entirely. |

I've still got the 12 in. of Joe Le Taxi and it's on a beloved mix tape that I play alot. Reminds me of 1986 or so in Germany. Fond memories indeed. GeoSynch There's no way that I could make a top 5 "greatest songs of all time" list. The minimum size list that I could make is a top 20, and it would have to be understood that the order wasn't fixed in stone. Even then, a top 20 is difficult. The problems are several-fold. Someone else has already outlined the perils of such listing (was it Norm?) The main problem is trying to fold in the ideas of "personal favorite" and "important". Having said that, I'll simmer on this and see if I can't come up with something. |

Now that I am living in San Francisco, I have mercifully been spared (I am using the bus). However, the local "classic rock" station also plays the usual dreck.
