I have one on order right now. The unit uses the same PCI card (424) as the
HD192 and the 2408 mark iii. From what I understand, the 424 is supposed to be
much more compatible than the older 324 interface.

With the 324, motherboards that used Intel PCI interface chips were much more
likely to work than other boards. Its probably the same for the 424.

The only review I've found of the unit is at soundonsound magazine -- its in
the march issue which is available online now. They don't say much, and they
DID have PC problems. I had horrible problems with the 324 until I got this
motherboard, so I'm hoping I'm OK. On the other hand, they also said very good
things about the sound quality.

I'm getting one..I have an ASUS P4P 800 deluxe MOBO..I know from others that
this will work..I am using a 324 card with it now. I would use Intel to avoid
any problems.

I have both a MOTU 24 I/O on a PCI-424 card (studio machine) and a MOTU
24I on a PCI-324 on PCI-324 (remote machine). Each one is an Intel
chipset. Both work great...no issues.

I'm using Sonar 3.1PE each box with latest drivers in WDM mode.

Why WDM mode? 3.1 supports ASIO -- or is this a case of if it isn't broken why
fix it?

Thanks,

Actually I use WDM because of the nomenclature in the inputs when
enumerated by the device driver.

ASIO says:

Left MOTU 324 Analog 1
Right MOTU 324 Analog 1
Stereo MOTU 324 Analog 1
Left MOTU 324 Analog 3
Right MOTU 324 Analog 3
Stereo 324 Analog 3
Left MOTU 324 Analog 5
Right MOTU 324 Analog 5
Stereo 324 Analog 5
....
....
....
With a 24-input box it's hard for me to follow where I am and which
input is really the one I want to use.

WDM says:

Left PCI-324 Analog 1-2
Right PCI-324 Analog 1-2
Stereo PCI-324 Analog 1-2
Left PCI-324 Analog 3-4
Right PCI-324 Analog 3-4
Stereo PCI-324 Analog 3-4
Left PCI-324 Analog 5-6
Right PCI-324 Analog 5-6
Stereo PCI-324 Analog 5-6
....
....
....

So with WDM it's easier for me to keep track of what pair I'm using and
which half of the stereo pair I might use as a mono input.

I don't think there are any significant performance differences between
the two modes.

You can rename the ports, I have them named 1,2,3...etc.

I use Nuendo, you would open the VST connections page and click on the name
field. I would assume that Sonar can do this if it supports ASIO. If you
can't, this would be an extreme oversight.

make sure you have a full-refund, no-restocking fee return policy. i
can't count how many times i've seen people enter the "motu zone".
that strange place where things are supposed to work on a pc, but
don't.

when i switched to pc, i punted ALL of my motu gear.

Then again, I'm running an older MOTU 2408 w/PCI 324 on an Athlon 1600+/VIA
KT133A chipset and Win2k without a problem.

But I have to admit that I purchase an RME 9652 for my Atholon 64 3200+
because I didn't want to find problems, so going with an Intel chipset
should suit one fine with the PCI 424/24IO.
