Default Sound card S/PDIF IOs; Sounblaster MP3+. Resamples???

So you're saying that it does ADC first, then the mixer control is done after
that? Well, that could explain it. It seems none of the SB cards can capture
well from analog input.

They can do all right, but you have to do half the work by feeding
them with the correct level. It's the control (or possibly the gain
stage) they left out in order to meet the price point that the
marketing department decided people would pay. The Nomad Jukebox 3 has
the same problem - feed it with too high a level and you can use its
gain control to make the meters keep from going all the way to the top
of the scale, but you're then making a nice clean recording of a
digital signal. If you can adjust the output level of the source, you
can set the sound card's record gain at unity and it'll work fine.

I have some question about sampling/level controls on USB Mic/preamp
devices. I'm considering the following:
- Edirol UA-5
- Tascam US-122
- M-audio (Duo, MobilePre, Transit)

They all have Mic inputs (XLR, except the Transit that has 1/8" mic input).

Questions:
1. do these devices have input level controls *before* ADC?

I know the US-122 does. It's a real analog pot right on the box.

2. do these devices sample at both 44.1 and 48?

The US-122 does.
