This follows on to a post from a few days back. I need the change the
battery in my elderly Ensoniq SD1. Now, I can put together cables and stuff but I am not too confident about soldering around the battery. I've taken three photos of the battery to show you what I mean http://www.pottishaw.freeserve.co.uk/battery1.jpg http://www.pottishaw.freeserve.co.uk/battery2.jpg and http://www.pottishaw.freeserve.co.uk/battery3.jpg I got a reply from Will Miho who pointed me in the direction of the spares (in the USA), cheers for that, but is there anyone in the UK I could get spares from or are there any authorised Ensoniq repairers in central Scotland. Any help and advice appreciated --Big Craigie Remove yourclothes to e-mail me |

Don't know about UK suppliers but you should be able to get those cells from www.batterystation.com (in the US) which will ship overseas. Soldering the battery in should be very simple. If you're not feeling up to it, just ask someone who's handy with electronics to do it for you. Your local hi-fi repair shop or someplace like that should have no trouble. |

Hi,
try Sound Control Glasgow, Edinburgh or Kirkaldy. It's a fairly simple procedure except for the fact you have to remove the circuit board from the machine to do it. You must back up any sounds first, as you will lose everything stored in user memory. It shouldn't take more than an hour and the battery will be a few quid. Ensoniq used to be covered by EMU. I'm not sure you'll find any Ensoniq authorised repair shops though - spares availability is a joke. Phone EMU in Edinburgh. Gareth. |

So was Paris, at least Emu has sold some of the code to people who are trying to keep the Paris DAWalive for a while. Ensoniq has been a pretty dead company for a while though - but a battery is pretty easy. If you can get as far as de-soldering the battery then I'd suggest taking the battery to your nearest Maplin shop (see the phone book or www.maplin.co.uk) who will probably have a suitable replacement. Cheers. James. |

I've been onto EMU (their number in Edinburgh) who told me to phone Dublin which I did. They gave me two suppliers who seemingly have all the Ensoniq spares left in the UK. One of them is wanting £15 + vat + postage which I imagine would bump the price up to around £20. Fair enough, my machine is worth it but I am sure I could get the battery cheaper from someone like ARD or RS components. My problems is that I do not kno what to ask for i.e the actual specs of the battery. The unfortunate thing is that the details are hidden and all I can find is that it is a Lithium 3V and as far as I can see the letters BR 2/3 something. It is 3.4 cm in length. So if anyone can help me out witha product number (been on the net all night with no success) then I'll be most gateful -- Big Craigie Remove yourclothes to e-mail me ps I am not that handy with the soldering iron but a friend is and he'll put the new one in. |

Hi Craig,
you need a 3 volt Lithium battery, size 2/3AA. RS part number 436 4803. This is actually 3.5 volts nominally, but will be fine. Gareth. "Big Craigie" wrote in message ... Oh for gawds sake, where's my head today.
There are 3 volt versions available from RS. 172 5069 Tagged version 436 3513 Axial lead version The tagged version may or may not be the same tag dimensions as the original, it probably is. You will definately be able to fit the Axial Lead version but you should glue it in place with silicon sealant or similar. Have a look at the online catalogue. http://rswww.com/ Go to Search then Advanced Search and put "Lithium Battery" in the description box, ticking Match All Words. 3v std MDX cells is the page you want and here they are marked 2/3AA so I'm a bit confused, but the dimensions are stated.
