Default protools files back and forth between studios

hi guys,

it's become common for people to record protools files here and there
in different studios.

but how do they sort out the plugins issue?

say you're on tdm and have everything. and then you want somebody to
overdub for you and he doesn't have the same plugins you do. or if
it's an mbox guy who's on RTAS.

what are people doing usually?

Duplicate the playlist track and "print" the effect/EQ or whatever.

Add the effects after? If you're sending your project to someone for O/Ds,
wouldn't you reserve the effects/plug-in decisions until the mix anyway? I
would. And even if that someone prints the effect it'd be so easy for
him/her to record a dry signal at the same time. I don't see where the
problem is.

Hi,
when you open the session on the machine that hasn't got the plug-ins used
on the original machine, you should get a message ""xxx-plug-in inactive"
but everything should work normally. Off course, you should finally take it
to a machine that has all the plugins you used for the session. Same thing
with soft synth plug-ins.

if you think the other machine isnt going to have something that you are using
and its integral to your material (soft synths, cool gtr effects, etc...)- just
print the effect into its own track.
