Yes a good one!
Also, please note the return of one of the best in political satire-that flightless-Antarctic-based-with-oversized-proboscis-waterfowl of Mr. Breathed's creation. Best regards, John |

I'm not sure I see your "truth."
Software (of all types) has always been treated differently from hardware. Software can be copied; hardware cannot. If the young man was curious about the quality of this CD, he should have gone to the library (or Web!) and looked for reviews before he bought it. Now, if you're arguing that stores are too quick to permit returns for trivial reasons, I agree. (I've seen Toys 'R' Us issue full refunds on merchandise with most of the parts missing.) But almost all retail businesses permit returning merchandise for just about any reason. It's "good business." By the way, there are no laws requiring businesses to take back merchandise. In my 56 years, I've only found one that didn't -- a drugstore chain (I forget the name) in the DC area. There's a "Dinosaurs" episode in which Earl's wife convinces the management of "Cave Mart" that allowing customers to return goods would be a good idea. Mike Rivers wrote... Yeah, like you can learn about the music on a CD from reading a review. You probably think you can learn whether you'll like a microphone or compressor by reading a review. g As an ex-Stereophile reviewer, I know a lot about such things. I didn't really mean to start a political or religious argument here, but the "truth" to which I was referring was that the single was not representative of the rest of the CD. Apparently he bought the CD based on the single and was disappointed with the rest of the material. Got any CDs like that in your own collection? Not many -- I listen mostly to classical. With respect to "truth" -- I thought you were trying to make some connection between too-small buttons on the remote and the disappointing CD. |

The real joke about this is even deeper. A couple of years ago, in the local
newspaper a columnist did a regular item about her efforts to be a good consumer, and in one she was shopping for a TV. In the article she went to Circuit City, where she purchased a set thanks to their free delivery and 30 day money back guarantee. In the end she discovered it was way too big, and she did return it, feeling very guilty, but it came out that this is a regular occurence at CC every year right after Super Bowl weekend. It seems lots of people go shop for a big new TV, watch the game and then somehow decide that the TV is not right for them. |

Thankfully, the number of people who intended to do the return, but just don't get around to it makes it all worth it. dtk |
