Default Is there a way to use Protools LE without the digi 002r?

The only way to run ProTools without any Digi hardware connected is to
use ProTools Free. The good news is it's free, the bad news is it's
limited to 8 tracks and you have to listen through the computer's
onboard sound hardware.

Not correct. I had PTF working fine with my Creamware Pulsar system,
which is definitely NOT the computer's onboard soundcard.

I'm very new to all this and was wondering if there is any way to mix
on my G4 PowerBook using Protools LE without having it connected to
the 002r. Seems that one might want to play around with the mix while
traveling (for example) without having to lug around the box.

One other thing. Any suggestions as to preferable size and brand and
issues relating to an external firewire drive. The G4 only has a 80GB
4800 rpm drive.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
