European sound reinforcement miracle
I played a concert in Portugal tonight- it was a small private affair put on by some folks who are big fans of the singer I'm working with. It's a one off little project we're doing- vocals, classical guitar and reeds. Very quiet, conversational and intimate.
The venue was an "event space" that these fans just opened and they had a big dinner for their invited guests- maybe 100 or so? There's no production in the room, so everything was hired. We showed up for sound check and they had a little stage- appropriately sized for us- and an appropriately sized production- boxes on sticks a few very small wedges. All Meyer sound. And in front of my chair for my guitar was a schoeps on a short boom stand. I was in shock. I went to the sound guy and opened my bag, said "want to laugh?" And pulled out my schoeps that I carry for these types of gigs. I didn't need it, they had brought one for me!
The gig sounded very good too... I still can't believe it....
