DMM is one innovation that has been added since the '60s as well as things like digital lathe control, better sounding acceleration limiters for the cutter stylus, better "lacquer" disc materials (less noise) and generally less 'colored' electronics all through the system. And there's nothing wrong with incremental improvements. The proof is in the pudding. LP test records made using the best modern procedures and equipment measure no quieter than classics from the 1960s and 1970s such as those by CBS Laboratories. Yet by your own admission you sat that you've never heard any of these modern re-masterings from companies such as Classics Records. So how would you know what improvements have been wrought? |
