Finally sorted through all the paper and put it on line.
Read it and drool at http://mikeriversaudio.files.wordpre...11/aes2010.pdf -- "Today's production equipment is IT based and cannot be operated without a passing knowledge of computing, although it seems that it can be operated without a passing knowledge of audio." - John Watkinson http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com - useful and interesting audio stuff |

My best intentions to get down the show this year fell by the wayside -- too many plates spinning (wobbling?) in the air at the moment. Sigh. Your thoughtful reporting is much appreciated! Great AES coverage for those of us unable to attend. On the Toft Trident 82, I assume Toft Audio must have worked out the legal arrangement with John Oram to use the "Trident" name because Oram's mixers now carry his name rather than Trident (e.g. Oram 8t vs Trident 8t). I didn't find much on the web about this except for press releases. Gary V |

Mike, Thanks so much...I hope to make NYC for AES 131... I still miss the show at the Waldorf. You may be getting your wish. The London show was small enough that they held it in a hotel for the first time in years. The 2010 SF show was down to half the area that the show had a couple years ago. I don't think it was as small as the post-911 show, but it was pretty close and it had the same very intimate feel as the post-911 show. For the most part, the shrinkage was good. Sony and Gordon Instruments had the same sized booths, I think. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

One exhibitor I talked to thought they should move the West Coast show to the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim (it was there for a couple of years). -- "Today's production equipment is IT based and cannot be operated without a passing knowledge of computing, although it seems that it can be operated without a passing knowledge of audio." - John Watkinson http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com - useful and interesting audio stuff |

Mike, your report has a professional polish, yet you maintain your independence. It's obvious, and to our benefit, that you're working for yourself with these reports. Unfortunately, yes. It would be nice to have some way to subsidize the trade show travel, but I guess I'll have to get famous enough to work for someone in order for that to happen. When I was doing reviews on a somewhat regular basis, I could usually find a couple of things at a show that I could review as a paid article, but I expect that any reviews I do now will be just for fun and posting on the web site. -- "Today's production equipment is IT based and cannot be operated without a passing knowledge of computing, although it seems that it can be operated without a passing knowledge of audio." - John Watkinson http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com - useful and interesting audio stuff |
