Parts 1, 2 and 3 of my CES overview are now posted on my blog, for
anyone interested. Part 3 is exclusively about the audio products at the show that were on the floor (didn't get much time in the hi-end area). http://bobbyowsinski.blogspot.com/ -- Bobby Owsinski bobbyowsinski.com Visit my blog at bobbyowsinski.blogspot.com Author: The Mixing Engineer's Handbook, The Audio Mastering Handbook, The Recording Engineer's Handbook, The Drum Recording Handbook, How To Make Your Band Sound Great |

Especially G4 which typically talked about laptops and cell phones. But what about "The Show" were most of the good audio stuff is? Was it at Alexis Park like always ?? greg |

I'll pretty much concur with Bobby's report. There were several oddly
shaped speakers there, mostly either resembling the human hearing chain or a jazz player's idea for a hybrid brass instrument made of plastic so it'll be lighter. The Venetian had room after room of speaker after speaker, all of which sounded pretty decent, none of which I would consider paying the price to have in my home. And in the rooms that weren't showing speakers, they were showing cables. One display from a company who made everything they were showing - speakers, amplifier, CD player, and cables, had cables about as big around as my arm going from their power distribution box, and a star ground made with ordinary #12 solid electrical wire, which looked like it was added at the last minute since it was external to the cable jackets. There were a couple of standard Home Depot grade extension cords plugged into the wall outlet. I wonder if their humongous power cable (feeding the distribution box) was plugged into one of those. |

I have not attended in years however I remember the "Gemini Gals" although for some reason I can't remember what the company sells? DJ stuff I think? Yes DJ stuff, but I don't recall that they exhibited at CES. They're a regular at NAMM, but the gals have toned it down considerably in the past few years of politically correctness. |

I rode over to the CES on a shuttle with someone who said he had been over to the the high end audio show at the Alexis Park the previous day. Is that a different show, concurrent with CES? I actually liked the layout at Alexis Park better than at the Venetian. The day I spent there was the only day I really felt beat when I left. Maybe it was all the speakers one right after the other, and trying to figure out if I had been down that spoke of rooms before or not. |

Show twice. I enjoyed the outside sun and weather, the food, and roaming around, and smoking. Its been 5 years since I last attended. I was staying outside of Vegas since Vegas was "full" for two days. I was basking in the sun at the Key Largo and swimming. The little places offered better accomodations, where most "big" places the pool was closed. greg |
