I was looking for a speaker system that supports an optical input -
more like creative inspire type series.
I did not want to goto a full fledged receiver + speakers type of
setup! Any advice is appreciated.

For very little money you can buy an optical to coax converter, then use
it with any 'speaker with digital S-PDIF or AES-EBU input.
