Just did my first DB drag in class C and hit 151.6 with the engine. It was a
**** load of fun. Hopefully I can break 155 in an outdoors show.

Congrats!!!

Although I am not a DB guy by FAR (polar opposite SQ guy) It's awesome
that you had fun. The engineering that goes into DB drag is neat, I've
built a few but it's not my bag. Keep up the work, have fun, play nice
with others

We have DB drag all over here but I'm having a hell of a time finding
SQ comps, My glass work is not done yet and it's probably too late in
the season to start. Any ideas where to find good SQ comps now that you
are in the scene?

Congratulations Howdy!! 151 dB is NOTHING to sneeze at!!! That's frickin'
awesome!!!

No, there isn't much out there anymore for the SQ competitor. I do miss the
heyday of IASCA in the mid 90's. I used to compete and it was tons of fun.

Nice work!

Thanks Mosfet, I just wanted to get the thing metered. I did a little better
then I thought as I was hoping for 145 with the car running. 151 was mid-grade
that day for C-class. Someone in B-class hit 156 with a pair of 12's. C-class
doesn't seems like an easy place to be with my poor 12's. There was a guy in
my class that won at 160 something with 4 15's. After checking out c-class
guys with a wall of 8 10"s in a mini-van. 4 and 15"s in a wagon and a guy with
1 18" and 4 10's in his car I knew that I was doomed. This was all on a day
that we had a big show in Toronto that most of the locals went to. The
metering was done in a underground install bay and it was a key off show, I
thought that totally sucked ass, I lost a 1000watts with the key off. There
were guys pushing their cars in the line so that they wouldn't drain their
batteries starting their cars. The classes were rated on the amount of
speakers and size only, no one cared about power, hell no one even checked my
car to see if I had what I said that I had, I could of said that I had one 10"
and no one would of knew any different. The comp wasn't every well organized.

Congratulations Howdy!! 151 dB is NOTHING to sneeze at!!! That's frickin'

YOU DIDN'T USE HEARING PROTECTION!!???!?!?!

I've seen pictures of your system, it's HUGE!! You took 151 dB with NO
PROTECTION?

You're lucky you can still hear at all (and that you didn't soil yourself).
I hit 142 dB once at a sound-off (I was just curious what my car was capable
of, I AM NOT a serious competitor) without hearing protection and my ears
were ringing for hours. I learned my lesson that day. I HOPE you've
learned yours.

This comp was part of slam-jam held by a local car/home audio store.

Interesting. When I competed SQ in IASCA we were required to wear ear
protection in the vehicle for the SPL test, and if your system could go
over about 120db were not allowed in the vehicle at all during the test.
For the unlimited SPL people were outside the vehicle operating the
system with some type of remote. I quit competing after 1995 IASCA
World Finals so it may have changed since then.

I. Care, who are you, might I ask?

I kept up pretty regularly with all the major players in IASCA through the
90's, and you mentioned that you have competed in the world finals. Might I
have seen your name (or even your car featured) in any of my back issues of
AS&S, CA&E, or CSR (I have nearly every copy of all three magazines going
back to 1989, when it seems ALL THREE of them started).

You are Ken Bernritter and you are indeed mentioned in some of my magazines.
I just found your name in the Jan. issue of AS&S, and as Ken Bernritter
drove a Ford Probe and competed in the Amateur 151-300, I ASSUME that must
be you (how many Ken B.'s drive a Ford Probe and compete in IASCA?). You
did pretty well for a key event, third place at the Car Toys show in
Seattle. A belated congratulations to you.

Anyway, that's very cool. Obviously you had (or still have) a hell of a
car.

I didn't get featured, I.E. a mag layout, but I did get mentioned
several times. A couple of the mags wanted to feature my install but
they wanted me or my local dealer to write it up for them. One of the
mags was interviewing contestants at the 1995 World Finals and I had, if
I remember correctly, the longest interview space. I was the last
person judged in my class Sat evening ending about 9:30pm.

1993 Red Ford Probe Amateur 151-300w 9th out of 35. Also received the
plaque for highest accumulated trophy points during the contest season
for my zone (7?), WA, OR, ID, Canada. Pioneer ODR system w/Phonix Gold
Zero Point 6-1/2" and tweets (25mm) in kick pods, Rockford 3-1/2" center
channel, 2ea Rockford PWR 808 8" subs, Pioneer 5"x7" rear fill. System
wasn't flashy, was built stealth.

The ODR stuff is:
Pioneer ODR RS-K1 (Tape) Head unit
Pioneer System Commander RS-C100
Pioneer 12 disk CD Changer RS-M1
Pioneer Signal Processor RS-P1 also drives center ch 15w. Controls the
system with time align, electronic crossover, dual digital 31 band
EQ etc.
Pioneer Signal Processor RS-P50 drives analog amps for subs and rear
fill.
Pioneer Amplifier RS-A1 Pure Class "A" 30w (15wx2) driving front tweets
Pioneer Amplifier RS-A2 Class "A" 100w (50wx2) driving front mid-bass
Pioneer Amplifier 2ea GM-X402 70w (35wx2) for rear fill and bridged for
70w subs.
