Default Vintage SanSui Amplifier -- Opinions Needed

I came across some inexpensive vintage SanSui amplifiers (AU-9900)
that revive my recollection of our SanSui system in my teen. I wonder
if these gears still be able to keep up with current crop of high end
amps such as Marantz, McIntosh ... to drive currecnt crop good
speakers.

Anyone who actually own these SanSui amps and have a chance to compare
to others can give me some ideas how they sound.

I have a Sansui AU-6500 I handed down to my kid.
It's a very transparent and neutral SS amp IMO.
How it would compare to other amps I think will
depend mostly on the speakers you choose to drive
them with. Into a benign 8 ohm load, mine
performs very well and its only 35 watts.

Can it handle fine details and good imaging? some claim they like the
sound of sansui better than modern amps, I doubt the sansui can beat
typical NAD.

Sorry, I can't say as I don't have a NAD. However, imaging and detail
of the Sansui are fine IMO. These are uncolored, low distortion, flat
FR, high BW
amps when working well. Some feel those type of amps are sterile and
lifeless.
It depends on what you're looking for. If neutrality is OK with you,
then a good condition Sansui will work fine IMO. If you're looking for
some particular type of sound...then probably not.
In any case, my Sansui is well built IMO, for example the volume pot
remains quiet
after 30+ years which I can't say the same for much of my newer gear.

I will caution you that gear this old is likely to have diminished
capacity in the power supply filter section... you might want to have
the electrolytics replaced.

Early Sansui gear was comparable in performance to similar US gear
such as Fisher, HH Scott, and similar. Later Sansui units were
cheapened somewhat in many cases but they would build some decent
consumer gear up to a few years before the end.

I knew many instances where junked Sansui, and other, tube receivers
and integrated units yielded their transformers for guitar amp repair.
The solid state stuff was occasionally reworked for hobby MI use too,
but not very much. Mostly they worked for a long time and as long as
parts existed the owners wanted them fixed. The company which made the
transformers for the tube Sansui units is now making those pieces again
should you sensibly want to shore up an old Fender, or for building a
halfway decent stereo amp.

My guess is that solid state Sansui if repaired properly is suitable
for non-serious listening or for giving to the kids, for whom it's now
retro and cool, but it's incredibly doubtful it merits the status of a
desireable high end unit. I wouldn't pay collector prices for it in
other words.
