Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this: I currently have PT 6.8 "M-Powered" running at home on my mac, with an M-audio Firewire 410 interface... I am in the process of trying to mimic my home setup with an Ibook/Ozonic combination for theater sound design on the road. HAven't bought anything yet. Does anyone know if I will be able to install PT on my laptop, insert Ilok with my plug in and PT authorization, buy the m-audio Ozonic interface for it, and live happily ever after? Or will I have to buy/license another copy of PT? Same question for the MOTU Symphonic Instrument Plug-in, if anyone knows. I haven't dealt too much with authorizations yet so please bear with me if this is a stupid question. I want to make sure my budget is in order! Thanks in advance, Matt Fort Lauderdale, FL |

As far as I know (someone back me up before this guy spends anything) any
plug thats on your ILOK can operate on any system with the software installed. Your auth is on the ILOK so it doesnt care what system its attached to, as long as the associated software is on that comp. "Matt" wrote in message oups.com... Yeah
Protools will open on any computer where the installed software is present and the i-lok is in place. (you can remove it once the application is opened). I have the same version of M-powered PT on 2 laptops. I use both with a 410 but as long as the correct interface driver is loaded I don't see any problems. The Ozonic has a different driver to the 410. I'm also using Tiger, I had to wait a few weeks for the PT upgrade for that... Don't know about the MOTU what sort of protection does that use? Thanks for the info guys....not sure about the copy protection for the
MOTU symphonic instrument. How is Tiger, BTW? Worth upgrading from 10.3.9? Also was wondering if you had any problems with the midi timing on the built in interface on the 410....mine is totally screwy, to the point of being unusable for ext synths or even my motormix. The midiman 2x2 on the usb bus is perfect, though. driver problem for 410? --Matt |

Tiger is worth going to for the dash board.... It's great fun.
There are a few conflicts between some of the short cuts between tools and the OS but I have not had a problem with them. I didn't notice any timing problems but I'm not a big midi user, actually now that I think of it I've been using a usb keyboard. The 410 driver is specific for 10.4 and I haven't read the bug fixes... It seems to be ok sync'ing to midi clock though. |

If I try and burn a DVD from a previously created image, the speed is greyed out and I am forced to use the maximum possible speed. I've reported it to Apple. It's not all that serious, since Disk Utility turns out to be just a GUI wrapper for the hdiutil command, and I can do it from the command line with no problems at any speed. But it's annoying. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
