Default Dual disc

From Legacy (Sony).

DualDisc Has Arrived!

Now One Disc Has it All.
2 Sides. 1 Disc. Unlimited Possibilities.

Get the full album on the CD audio side. On the DVD side, get the
entire album in enhanced sound (such as 5.1 Surround Sound), along
with such multimedia features as music videos, behind the scenes
footage, documentaries, photo galleries, web links, and so on.
DualDisc brings the fan even closer to the creative artistic process
and will add an exciting new dimension to the musical experience. One
disc, two experiences.

DualDisc plays on existing CD and DVD devices such as DVD players,
portable devices, PCs, game consoles and CD players!

Not very fresh news, since their trials were over and expansion plans
announced last fall. Sony is going strictly Redbook on the "cd" side and
Dolby Digital 5.1 on the other. Some of the companies that were champions
of DVD-A are going with both Dolby Digital 5.1 and lossless LPCM on the
other side...but at 44.1/24 or 48/24, not the 96/24 standard of DVD-Audio.

Basically the consensus on the Audio Asylum forums devoted to high-res is
that a) DVD-A as we have known it is dead, b) Dual-Disk will probably
succeed as the format for popular music, and that c) SACD will probably
survive as a superior niche technology appealing mostly to audiophiles and
classical and jazz and other "acoustic music" enthusiasts.
