Default Headphones HD650 or HD600 ?

I am considering buying a pair of SENNHEISER HD650 or HD600 which I intend
to use for mixing/reference when not in the best of studios.
Which of the 2 are the most accurate/flat (rather than which sounds best) ?

Thanks

HD 650 is the newest and best of the two, but HD 600 is still an excellent
pair. In my opinion these are the best dynamic headphones in the world. I
strongly recommend a dedicated headphone amp though, like Musical Fidelity
X-CAN V3.

I bought a Sennheiser HD580 in 1996. A HD600 in 1998. And finally
the HD650 in 2004. They all sound great.

But I recommend you get the HD650. Sennheiser improved the
construction of the cord leading up to the earcups on the HD650. If
you get the older HD600, you'll have to replace the cord in a year.
The reduced hassle factor is worth the extra price.

Regardless if you buy HD600 or HD650 it's worth to replace the cord,
there are cords from Oehlbach, Cardas etc. Not only can you get a big
improvement in how they sound but you are also not limited to one lenght
of cable.

I love the neutrality, effortlessness and smoothness of Sennheisers,
but would be concerned about the frequency response, maybe, although
the newer models might be better than what I had? I had a pair of
HD480's, but didn't realise how much bass and top end I was losing
until I bought a pair of Technics, which go down to 5 Hz. The Technics
are not as good in other ways, but I find the bass end important to be
mixing correctly.

Trust me, your Technics are going to sound like a close can compared to HD
600 or 650's. HD 480's are not even remotely comparable to those. And you're
not going to hear anything at 5 Hz. In fact, anything that happens below
20-30 Hz i virtually useless unless you're doing sound design form movies
(cinema).
