Default Inexpensive Hyper-cardioid Microphones - Audix vs. T.H.E. vs.Octava

Given that the Sennheiser MKH50 and the Schoeps MK41 are the standards in
this field, does anyone have any thoughts/opinions/recommendations about the
less expensive hyper-cardioids for indoor dialogue/interview work? Low noise
and freedom from RF interference are my concerns (along, obviously, with
sound quality and off-axis rejection).

Audix SCX-1HC, Sanken CS-1, T.H.E. KR-3H, Oktava MC012 w/HC capsule?

Thanks.

Of these, I have only used the Audix and the Oktava, neither one of which
are as directional as the MKH50 or MK41.

On the cheap, the Audio-Technica AT4053 might be worth looking at. Clean
off-axis, although still not as directional as the MK41.

The Oktava is still a great mike for the price, but you'll find the pattern
varies a lot from unit to unit and even the tightest ones aren't all that
tight. But it's usable, which is more than you can say for some of the
competition.

The Sanken CS-1 gets good reviews from the film and video sound mixers at
rec.arts.movies.production.sound. However, it is, I believe, a short
shotgun, which is not so good for indoor use. The Sanken CS3 is the one you
want. It is a hyper cardioid. Do a Google search for Sanken CS3 on the
above news group. You'll get all the opinions you want from qualified
professionals.

I'm very curious about the T.H.E. Microphones. Not all that much about them
on the web....

Taylor is a good guy, and he seems to really care about quality. I have not
actually managed to try any of the mikes yet, but he's done more to improve
the quality of the Oktava stuff than anybody out there, and I hope he can
do the same with his own line. He has recently moved to Argentina where the
manufacturing facility is, to try and help them in that regard, and it is
going to be interesting to see how things turn out.

Tried most of them. Even the AT 4053. I bought the Schoeps. A pair of them.

Don't forget the Audix Micros M1290HC. I always thought that would make a cute little flyweight boom setup.

The M1245HC is even shorter, but has less bass response. This might be OK for boom work.

There is a M1290S which they described to me as a supercardioid, but the pictures show something looking more like a shotgun.
