Default joining cables

Would there be any meassurable or audible difference between 1 50m mic
cable or 5 joined 10 m cables? That is, is there any signal degradation
at the XLR-XLR joins?

Lars

May God help us if there is!

;-)

But seriously, a good XLR connection measures perfect at and below the 0.01
dB and 0.001% THD level, and has the sound quality to match.

That is, do I buy a couple of cheap 15m snakes at Thomans or and
expensivie (and heavy)... So, I suppose joining a couple of shorter
snakes is safe.

So several "lightweight" and short snakes connected in series i
equivalent to one long. Good. And cheaper too. And easier to handle. I'm
looking for 8 channels 30-50m. The 15m ones I've found are 8 channel.
The 30m+ ones I find are all 16+4 channels or more (although not
proportionally more expensive), so...

Thanks, Lars

Provided all your connectors are sound, there shouldn't be at audio
frequencies.

The downside is you now have ten potential points of failure instead of
just two, so reliability is likely to be less.

It just showed up yesterday and I haven't had the chance to plug it in yet.

LD, three pattern; figure of eight, omni, cardioid.

40 Hz 80 Hz high pass

-5 dB, -10 dB pad.

7 dBa selfnoise

The graph looks like a very broad +4 plateau.

More later.

No. That's why we use XLR connectors. Massive contact area.

Well, Doug Sax used to claim he could hear the difference between a
Switchcraft and another XLR....

So can I, as long as I use Doug Sax type listening evaluations. Taking a
*little beverage* can help. ;-)

Location recording. To move me, the recorder and other equipment away
from the performers and perhaps out of the way from an audience too.

I.e. bring the microphone signals from one end of a church to the other
where preamps and recorder is and if there is an audiens ,in such a way
that they wont trip over cables and other stuff

In this case both the shorter[1] 8 channel (15m ‰ˆ 50' (75‚¬ at Thomans)
(15m will be too short so I'll need more than one)) and longer[2] 16+4
channel (30m ‰ˆ 100' (150‚¬ also at Thoman)) have a stage box in on end
and a "squid" in the other.

I can not imagine needing that many channels[*] and it weighs 17kg. But
there could be other things to consider. Thats why I ask...

sincerly
Lars

[1] to be even more direct... the shorter (of which I'd need more than
one)

[2] the clumsier (that feels like overkill)

odinfo.html
[*] famous quotes:
IBM's Watson (?) in the fifties: "The potential world market for
computers is three computers"
Bill Gates: "There will never be a need for more than 640MB of RAM."
etc ...

oops, how time flies... now one can't even imagine 640kB of RAM in a
computer (and he said kB). I once discussed with a prof Tärnlund
(computer science) and he bragged about a complete Prolog interpreter of
his that ran in 8kB code + data, try that today...
