Default voice recording range on mp3 players

Hi, I don't know if you all know about these.
I want to buy the Creative MUVO 256 mb mp3 player.
To use for jogging and to record my teacher during class.
What is the range of the built in mic?
Do you know?
If i'm sitting 20 feet from the person speaking, will their voice be recorded?
Will it pick up the sound while in my pocket?

Or is this really a dictaphone to taking personal memos

Microphones never EVER have a characteristic that defines the distance
at which they will record a sound. They instead have a sensitivity to
the pressure level of the sounds that reach them. Whether a person speaking
at a distance of 20 feet will be adequately recorded while the mic/recorder
is in a pocket depends on the sound pressure level that reaches the mic and
the sensitivity of the mic and the gain of its amplifier.

I believe that the thing that makes people believe that mics have a "range"
characteristic is that microphones can be constructed to be directional.
That is, they can reject sounds that arrive from their side or back while
not rejecting sounds that arrive from their front. This makes them appear
to reach out to sounds from the front, but this isn't really the case.
Instead, it allows one to increase the mic's amplifer gain to increase
the level of desired sounds without increasing the level of undesired
sounds.

I'm not familiar with this unit, but I suspect that the built-in mics on
any of its kind are best suited for dictaphone-type work.
