hey folks, question...
i'm currently doing FOH for a band that really needs a really smooth and tight groove sound. the first thing I really want to clean up is the snare/kick sound.. if budget allowed, i'd run a trigger through the direct out to a stand-alone drum machine, but there's other things i'd really like to approach first before asking for something like that (ie, getting the rest of the band on in-ears). so i'm trying to think of an alternate way I can get the effect i'm looking for here, as standard micing and eq/compression just isn't cutting it like i'd like. is there any way to use my digi002 through protools to route out drum samples via a trigger in something like reason? i've got pretty much everything standard in the way of plugins/external programs. my only concern there would be latency, but in a live setting i'm not thinking it would be that big a problem. my only other thought would be to run a signal generator to put a very low frequency around 40-60hz and then insert a gate keyed to the kick signal, and mix that in to add depth. that might work out fine but my main approach with this band has been to get a very solid rhythm section down because their stuff is very groove-jam oriented, and in order to do that i've tried to keep most of the bottom end very clean, keeping the kick low-passed and keeping more of the low end coming from the bass being layered on top of the kick's snappiness. any suggestions for getting a tight groove sound is highly appreaciated. thanks! |
