Default ALERT - Forged Bank Cashiers Checks!!!

ALERT - Forged Bank Cashiers Checks!!!

Fellow Audiophiles beware of forged Bank Cashiers Checks!!!

These typically come out of Nigeria and can usually be quickly identified by
calling the bank noted on the check. The check we recieved was from the State
Bank of Kimball in St. Cloud, MN. (telephone 320-398-3500). A discussion with
the bank revealed they are receiving as many as 12 of these forged checks PER
DAY from people all over the U.S. in amounts ranging from $5,000 up to
$1,000,000.
The scam anticipates that you willl deposit the check and then send the
merchandise or a partial refund back to them BEFORE you realize the check is a
forgery. Names used are Stephen Smith and Marcus Smith (who usually calls from
England.) Checks arrive via FedEx International Priority with an address of 12
Victory Road in Nigeria.

As a public service HigherFi is posting this scam alert to help protect
audiophiles doing business on the web with companies and individuals who may be
trying to defraud you.
If you would like to see actual examples and read about the latest forged BANK
CASHIERS CHECKS and Hijacked eBay accounts being used to bid on gear go to:

If you have evidience of other such activity, please let us know and we will
try to help spread the word.

NOTE: We have found most Internet users are very honest and this notice is not
intended to reflect on them, we just want to warn all of you trusting people of
the latest scams being used.

Listen, we're already in big trouble. All that needs to be done is to have a
hacker break into GEICO, PayPal, Verizon , etc. databases and copy your banking
info, and then send through an electronic check or debit.

It would take weeks before anyone caught on.

Dpn't know what it is about folks from that country but we have been
receiving fraudulent solicitations since 1995 or so, first by mail, then
fax, now e-mail. Apparently the place is chock full of scammers and
schemers, and their gov't either turns a blind eye or has a hand in the
works.

I know a hapless fellow here in Atlanta that lost his 401K funds to
Nigerians. He was planning to go there to try to recover it until he
understood that sometimes people go there and mysteriously "disappear."

I avoid any solicitation from Nigeria or any similar sounding scheme
allegedly from another country as well as offers from behind the old iron
curtain.

Avarice is the mother of misfortune.
