Default Repairs for a Pioneer SX 1980

I own a Pioneer SX 1980 reciever and I love it, but his has one little
problem I would like to fix. Every so often the sound cuts in and out
and it sounds like static for a few seconds. If I jog the switches I
can get the sound back to normal. If anyone knows how to fix it I
would appreciate some information.

Thanks
Mark

Mark Thatcher:
Usually the switches that cause this problem are the source select, tape
monitor, loudness, mono, and tone defeat buttons. If you can safely open up
the unit and liberally squirt some Radio Shack contact or tuner cleaner into
the switches this may solve the problem...... after applying the cleaner be
sure to operate the switches several dozen times to facilitate the cleaning
process..... you may have to apply more cleaner since the switches are
somewhat sealed and it is difficult to get the cleaner into the contacts....
look for little holes, cracks, openings, etc on the switch assembly..
