I've heard of using anti-perspirent. Never tried it though.

Don't trust that stuff. The crystal is the only way thats safe

I'd wash my hands before playing-you might have to experiment with different
soaps- and wipe down the strings with a cloth as needed. Keep a towel in the
case. I'd avoid putting "stuff" on hands or strings. It's possible that the
frets are too low for your current needs.

Your post kinda jogged my memory that I might have had this problem when I
started playing. A lot of the weirdness that accompanies mastering a craft
just sort of disappears as you continue to acquire expertise...

What kind of finish is on your guitar neck? Nito is a little sticky whereas
poly is slick. I play on an unfinished oiled neck. It means that I have to
clean the neck with naptha and re-oil it every now and then, but it keeps my
hands from slipping. You can also wipe off your hands and the fretboard with
a rag.

My hands wouldn't only sweat, they'd shake even if I didn't feel
conciously nervous emotionally or in the rest of my body. Messed up the
vibrato considerably. The body has it's own reactions, one has to get used to
"riding the wild horse". Years later in vocal lessons I learned the trick to
transfer tension to a foot so it wouldn't mess up my vocal mechanics. Many
young classical artists just use "Beta Blocker" drugs and personally I don't
think it's a good idea for a lot of reasons, among other things in the long run
I think it kills the level of unconcious passion in performance. Anyway as I
grew emotionally into performing the problem went away, a lot of playing on
College campuses, playing tired from the road, that kind of thing.

As a practical solution NO BABY POWDER. I'd use "Finger ease" kind of
silicone spray and a washcloth for sweaty hands/when playing out in the sun.
Your hands sweat the silicone keeps the strings playable/non stick, and you
just wipe the guitar neck and your hands between songs with the cloth. And of
course one must use at least "Slinky" 010 guage strings, build up the callouses
and keep the fretting hand nails short.
