Default Mic

Thanks Mike,

sound advice... I am also investigating into an MAudio FW410 + ProTools,
which would then enable me to use a better mic, like the Shure or Neumann
TLM103. 87bd s/n ratio sounds so impressive to me...

Cheers, Gabriele

The TLM 103 is an excruciatingly quiet mic. Neumann rang everyone's bell when
they came out with it years ago. 7 dB-a selfnoise! Plus relatively HUGE
sensitivity. With a loud enough source, you can bring it into a line level
input.

If you have quiet sources that require more quiet gain than your preamps can
provide, the TLM 103 is a good choice.

It does mate differently with different preamps. A focusrite RED 2 and a TLM
103 is NOT a good combo. A GML and a 103 is good. YMMV.

WARNING: The TLM 103 will hear sound in the next room even your ears don't
hear. For more info, please check the equipment review archive on my website.
