Hi!
I'm trying to setup my home studio, so I'm thinking of Spendor S 3/5 as monitors (legendary predecessor LS 3/5 was used by BBC as nierfield monitors for 25 years, only the best reviews around) powered by NAD 352. I wonder if anyone has any experience with S 3/5 as monitors... anyway for now NAD 352 is only an option, but still I'm looking for oppinions for best amp for those little gems. .... as I noticed at the store, sound changed dramatically as amplifire was changed. At first I heard S 3/5 with Arcam A90 - the sound was muddy, with lack of highs, then it was changed to Roksan "Caspian(?)" and sound was quite opposite to what I've heard first - brilliant highs, clean, dynamic midrange, warm lows etc ... still both of these amps are for aprox. 1500$ which is too much for me right now. I was told to wait few days for NAD 352 which has to be best amp for 500$. Still I haven't heard it in the combination with S 3/5... Thanks in advance for your oppinion ![]() Arnis |

They have no low end and they blow up very easily. I have used them for recording monitors for years because they have the most glorious midrange around, but they are very delicate. ... as I noticed at the store, sound changed dramatically as amplifire was changed. Also I might look into a small used tube amp. A decade ago I would have recommended the Dyna ST70 as a good match for those speakers, but a decade ago you could buy ST70s for ten dollars at yard sales. Now they go for big money on Ebay. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

Hmmm... a toughy. You should trapse on over to audiogon.com and enter
LS3/5A and have a look at the sheer volume of discussion on the discussion forum there. Really! But I'd say your projected amp is the weak link between those components. It's really SUCH a crap shoot in your range. I'd recommend Naim amplification if you want stunning dynamism. But that's me. I'm selling a Museatex amp cheap right now if you're interested. You'll have to do the research on that one. I would and will ALWAYS recommend buying second hand for quality gear. You'll get FAR more bang for your buck! Lots of luck. Jonathan |
