I've been using a Presonus Eureka for about a month now. I A/Bd it with an Avalon 737SP and what can I say....it's 1/4 the price and almost just as good results...well at least to my ears. The compressor is a little weak, but there are a lot of knobs to play with and you can hear a difference when you mess with all of them. The EQ is very nice even though the highs tend to distort the sound when you put them up too much. The preamp is high quality and the over all unit is quite exceptional. I also like the classy look...VU meter..blue lights....metalic design...very impressive. At around $499 for a brand new one, you can't go wrong. The last time I checked, just the RNP was going for about the same price and then you have to buy the RNC for compression. I posted two really long messages just a month ago about how I couldn't get that perfect sound....well the Eureka got me pretty close to it. I run the Eureka into a Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer for a little more gain and EQ and then into my computer with an m-audio interface. Works great for me...if you're on a budget, try just the Mackie 1202VLZ...I used the preamp and eq for quite a while and it never let me down...the Eureka just made it even better. |

You may have just found the answer to a lot of the questions you've posted recently. l run the Eureka into a Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer for a little more gain and EQ and then into my computer with an m-audio interface. an Avalon 737SP and what can I say....it's 1/4 the price and almost just as good results...well at least to my ears. This tends to agree with all the online and magazine reviews I have read. The compressor is a little weak, This tends to go completely against all the online and magazine reviews I have read. but there are a lot of knobs to play with and you can hear a difference when you mess with all of them. The EQ is very nice even though the highs tend to distort the sound when you put them up too much. Wouldn't that happen with any EQ when you put them up "TOO MUCH" ?? I bet this unit will distort if you overdrive the input too. The preamp is high quality and the over all unit is quite exceptional. I thought you said the compressor is weak? I also like the classy look...VU meter..blue lights....metalic design...very impressive. Exactly what most people look for first in such a unit. Because when the people hear the end result of a recording, what the mic processor looked like in the studio is really going to effect the overall sound. At around $499 for a brand new one, you can't go wrong. Especially since you get a $200 Analog to Digital output card for FREE if you buy the unit before the end of the month. So it was really $700, and you can get it for a few days yet for $500. The last time I checked, just the RNP was going for about the same price and then you have to buy the RNC for compression. What about the RNY and the RNX? |

I'll suggest that you buy the RNP/RNC because you probably don't have the experience to provide us with a really good review of the Eureka...It's hard to go wrong with the FMR stuff if for no other reason that you can get most of your money out of it if you really don't like it (but how would you know?). Christ, Mike, forget to take your Congeniality pills this morning? Do *you* even have time to figure out if you really don't like a product, or to gain the experience necessary to provide a really good product review, in between your 24/7 litany of cantankerous & condescending posts to RAP? What you seemed to have missed in your response was the original posters skewed question asking asking a leading question about the Eureka being junk. That does make one think the poster might have an issue going or not want to listen to balance. To the original poster I haven't seen anything about Presonus equipment that would indicate it is junk. Decent gear really. I believe the eureka has eq on it where as the RNP/RNC combo does not. The Eureka is also setup as a variable/imepedance matching device. Might be better for the poster to ask, how the pres compare, or how the compressor segments compare, etc. mike http://www.mmeproductions.com |

I believe the eureka has eq on it where as the RNP/RNC combo does not. As does a Mackie 1202. Eight of them, as a matter of fact. And four (count 'em) mic preamps for a good bit less scratch than the Eureka. The Eureka is also setup as a variable/imepedance matching device. Might matter. Might not. Might be better for the poster to ask, how the pres compare, or how the compressor segments compare, etc. Might. |

None of this equipment is any good. Only live acoustic music is any good at all. Recording gear only makes a pale shadow of the real thing. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra.
