I'm looking for a pair of great sounding bookshelf speakers no larger
than 20x10x12 to sit on the rear deck of my Honda Insight hatchback. My budget will allow me to spend up to $200 on a used pair. The idea is to be able to remove the speakers from time to time when I need more cargo room. Also, it's nice to be able to set the speakers on top the car on a nice summer day. I'd like decent bass response if possible. Please shoot me some model numbers to look for. TIA, Doug Jackson |

TIA, Doug Jackson I would suggest all-weather speakers. The cone and suspension materials of a typical bookshelf are not designed for the incredibly harsh environment of a car's rear deck. They would disintegrate in two years. The delicate veneers would also shred, and MDF fiberboard tends to absorb water. Personally, I'd install closed back auto speakers. They are designed to resist temperatures approaching 200 degrees, UV exposure, and high humidity. |
