Hello there folks,
I am trying to sort out a buzzing problem I have when connecting my laptop to my hifi. If I plug the laptop into Mains (AC power), then into my HiFi which is also plugged into Mains, there is a buzz problem. If I plug the laptop into Mains but listen on headphones (using the same minijack output socket), there is no problem If I use battery power on the laptop and connect it to my HiFi, there is no problem... SO there is only a problem when BOTH laptop AND HiFi are connected to the Mains. Anyone have any ideas what to do to fix it, or where the problem comes from? Your input would me MASSIVELY appreciated! Thanks, Mark. |

Mark,
You need an audio isolation transformer - two actually, for stereo. The Ebtech Hum Eliminator is decent and cheap (about $60 for stereo), but the ones Jensen Transformers makes are even better though more expensive (about $80-100 each and you need two). --Ethan |

Depending on your hifi system, the answer may be as simple as reversing the hifi
plugs in the AC mains. Unless your hifi system is all three prong plugs, it is a good idea to disconnect all components from each other and the mains. Plug each component into the mains one at a time and as you do that, measure the AC voltage between the component chassis and earth ground. When you are sure that all the hifi equipment is plugged in with each chassis properly grounded, then connect them up and try the computer once more. mark palmos wrote: Hello there folks, I am trying to sort out a buzzing problem I have when connecting my laptop to my hifi. Thanks a lot for the ideas guys, Im not much of a techie myself, but since I
have about 12 plugs in the corner where the HiFi is, It would be great to find ONE item that is messing it up and just fix that! Most plugs are 3 prong, so that might not work, but i will check it out! Thanks again, Mark. "Robert Gault" wrote in message ...
