Default tricks for protecting snakes ?

Part of my ultralight setup is a 9.9 foot, sixty buck eight channel, Hosa
snake. Remarkably, this snake is specced as using a spiral wind shield,
not foil, so it might hold up reasonably well with repeated uncoiling.

But it's pretty well established that feet break snakes. The traditional
way of protecting is with a plastic "runway", a fairly heavy plate with a
cableway on the underside. A runway would be too heavy and bulky to
include with the kit.

Has anyone found methods of snake protection via easier-to-carry means?

This interlocking design is on the right track.
