You returned the machine?? Or just the Elton John disc?
I, for one, own many early CDs, and unless your treble
EQ is turned up substantially, such tape hiss is not such
the big deal you make it out to be.
Don't forget that JackAss likes to boost the hell out of the 3kHz area.
He also seems to have tape hiss built in to his ears, from the amount he
complains about it.
