Default Got my coles 4038 today

A demo from the dealer with whom I have a store credit. I have never used one of the before. I have experience using rca 44 on a few different instruments in a studio situation, but never my guitar. I have used an AEA ku4 on my guitar and liked it very very much.

First, Scott i have heard you say it's muffled to you- it doesn't seem muffled to me. Not crispy of course, but speaking into sounded normal.

The proximity on this mic is unreal. But a hp filter or low shelf cleans it right up. I cannot believe how natural and accurate it sounds on my guitar. I really like it, but im not keen on monitoring it so tubby (the eq has to be done in the DAW) so if I decide to keep it I may have to spring for an AEA rpq preamp to get the roll off at the source. Based on the eq I did in the daw, I could probably get away with no eq if I used an rpq.

Anyway, first impressions are exciting. I think I want another for upright bass.

I have a handful of different schoeps capsules coming to me for demo also. Completely different beasts I know. I just have to use a good deal of eq to get my mk41 to be right for me so I am looking at alternatives that might be easier to handle. Perhaps I will prefer the schoeps omni. But I am super impressed with this 4038 in terms of how natural and real it sounds. I feel like I could just make a whole record with a few of these....
