What is it ? It is a technology that can easily be very
unreliable and frought with complications and problems.

But that is the future! Today we _must_ replace reliable
technologies with more profitable less reliable ones. Why do you
think wireless is so popular? --scott

Because we can sell folks more fixes for what shouldn't have
been replaced in the first place, more $$$ spent for more
unreliable crap. Besides, VOIp just sounds like **** far
too often!!!

These days because the new instant hams are too damned lazy
to really learn anything we get them telling us Echolink and
other VoIp stuff is as good as real radio. yah right.

We're just supposed to be glad to plunk down more money for
unreliable crap though. I still discourage elderly members
of my family every time somebody tells them they should lose
their regular pots landline service. I tell them that it
just might save a life.

REgular pots service is far more robust than piggybacked
technologies such as VoIp or even your cellular phone
system. WHere phone lines and some switching systems are
buried it might even survive the big emp.
