Yeah, but can you dance to it? Are you pulling our collective leg here?

aggressive correction curve to them, they sounded like new speakers.

The key here is "not very agressive." You can use EQ to smooth over
the transistion at the crossover between the woofer and tweeter, and
maybe to take out some frequency shaping that the designer put in, or
correct a small irregularity in the response of the speaker. But you
make measurements for these adjustments in the near field because
you're correcting the speaker, not the sound of the speaker in the
room.
