Arny used to do this all time whenever he was cornered. He'd stop
making sense, and his responses would get more and more feeble, yet he
couldn't shut up and walk away. He had to keep responding.
You know why you're doing this? Because you are an addict. You can't
stop responding. Even though everyone is laughing at you (on two
completely unrelated Usenet groups, no less), you still have to put
your two cents in. It doesn't have to be true, it doesn't have to make
sense, it doesn't have to be funny. You just have to say something
because you can't help yourself.
