several aftermarket and even some OEM car radios have gone back to
giving halfway decent AM performance as well as FM. You can convert
them into tuners by modifying them with a line out (some even have
one) or use them as is with a small 12 volt supply made from a
surplus transformer and some filter caps or what have you. Put them in
a nice salvaged mid fi speaker cab with a suitable driver and you have
a swank table radio.


I forgot to mention, if you are doing the pulling, bring a pair of
aviation snips and get ALL the connectors because the connectors get
expensive when bought separately. Leave enough lead length you can
splice comfortably. Also, a lot of cars use a surprisingly good grade
of wire in underdash bundling and if you build tube amps, etc, it
makes fine internal connecting wire.
