Jones: Michael ‘obviously didn’t want to be black’

"The hit-maker behind Jacko’s rise to pop royalty discussed his fondest and weirdest memories in an interview published online by Details magazine yesterday — including his personal consternation with the Surgically Altered One’s fading skin tone.
"Oh, we talked about it all the time," said Quincy Jones. "But he’d
come up with, ‘Man, I promise you I have this disease,’ "
"I didn’t believe in any of the (b.s)," Jones said. Asked about
Michael Jackson’s extensive changes to his nose and skin, Jones said,
"It’s ridiculous,
man. Chemical peels and all of it. And I don’t understand it. But he
obviously didn’t want to be black."
The Details interviewer asked, "Is that what it was?"
"Well, what do you think? Did you see his kids?" Jones replied.
News reports this week suggested that anonymous donors or even Jacko’s
dermatologist, and not Jackson himself, fathered his three children,
who show no
apparent black features. Jones said he has been devastated by the loss
of so many celebrity friends in the last two weeks.
"Oh man. It’s surrealistic," he told Details. "In three days I lost Ed
McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael. And Michael’s thing is still
surrealistic to
me. I can’t process it, man. I don’t know how to process it. It’s just
unbelieveable -- him leaving before me.
"It hurts my soul, man. It’s just a lump down there," Jones said. "Our
souls were joined, you know. And a piece of it goes with him."
