What are you talking about? Of course you hear sound coming from the
rear and sides.

If the sound from the front is music, then the echoes of it from the side and rear are music
too.


That is a weak semantical argument. Clearly the poster is simply
pointing out the he can clearly hear where the musicians are located,
which is not to his sides.


Then I suggest he has his surrounds improperly calibrated, or is listening to mixes where
the surround content has been emphasized for effect.

And you can see that others on this thread who are familiar with orchestral surround music,
are in agreement with me, not you or the poster.
