The Republican voter is not selfish at all, but votes against his/her
interest with the understanding that "those people" are hurt worse.

Your logical knots tax my brain. Maybe you could read that again and take a
whack at the ambiguities, not to say contradictions, which would of course
be damaging to your self-esteem because certain engineers didn't do well in
school.
