Well, $4 is a bit high but I think it's usually a certain percentage
(1/3?) of what they will sell the CD for. So more like $3 if they're
selling it for $9.99. Where it really works is when you bring in a
big pile of stuff you'll never listen to again and you might get a
couple hundred dollars in store credit. I don't know about every town
but here in LA there are lots of good stores. Lots of promo CDs
available of course which I'm sure is a sore topic for many around
here.
