depending on the LCD mechanism it can be pretty easy. pull your unit
apart and see. if you're lucky you can desolder a couple points, slide
the old backlight out, slide the new one in, resolder, and good as new.
another hack I've heard is people replacing the backlight with something
reflective (like mylar) and lining the edge of the LCD with LEDs. if
it's small, this can work OK.
