Default Help? 16 track analog transfer to DAW

How about recording some tone across all 16 tracks ahead of the program
material. Splice on some blank tape if necessary and record tone on that.
A second or two is all that's necessary, and don't fade the tone in,
obviously. Now, transfer the tracks two at a time or whatever your sound
card allows including the tone. Eyeball sync everything up in your
multi-track DAW. Zoom in to see individual samples to get the synch dead
on.

The downside, of course, is that you may have to do eight passes for each
tape, if you only have two track inputs.

Analog tape speed isn't consistant enough to do that. You really need to get it
in bigger chunks, at least 8 tracks at a time. Otherwise that 1% speed
fluxuation will kill you by the end of the reel. I'd suggest digging around and
finding a studio with a deck and a DAW to do the transfer, or you could always
bring your deck to the other studio and do it all in one pass. It's really the
only way that it's going to work.
