Some American composers are not terribly well-known in
Europe, even though many of them are from European
families who have emigrated to the US.

A good example is Erich Korngold. I was listening
last night to "Die Tote Stadt" a recording in which I
was involved years ago for RCA.

Korngold was a brilliant composer, and as a child
prodigy greatly impressed Gustav Mahler. By his
early 30s he had composed several operas in the
grand Wagnerian style, and was a professor at
the Vienna State Academy.

He emigrated not only to America but to Hollywood,
where he became a film composer of some stature.

Do you know his work?

There is some interesting info at:

Yes, I know his two best known operas, and his F# Symphony. Very
interesting music!

Good. I just knew you would:-)
