Default Turntables and computers

@y5g2000hsf.googlegroups.com, says...

You are very helpful! Yes, I do have a receiver with a phono input.
that's what it's connected to now. So, I need to cable from the back
of the receiver to the computer. Into the microphone jack?

No - you should plug it into the line input on the sound card, not the
microphone jack.

But I
will have to have software to capture the songs, right? I'm such a
novice at this.

I think you might be a good candidate for the software that I mentioned
above:
http://www.acoustica.com/spinitagain/

The software has detailed instructions on hooking things up to your
computer and how to proceed with the recording. You can use the software
on a trial basis for 3 albums, after which you the software will cease
to work unless you buy it.

However, give it a try - I think you'll find that going through a couple
of albums will help you understand the process, after which you can
either buy the software or move on to something else.

The only thing that this software doesn't get quite right for me is the
song breaks on the albums. It's easy to go through after you've recorded
and set them correctly though, but it took me a couple of tries to
realize what was going on and to fix it.
