Wadia 16 owners or experts help...

Hi
I wonder if someone can help. I recently got hold of a lovely Wadia 16
player and have been very pleased with its sound. but now i have a
problem - the tray has eaten a CD and jammed tight shut and won't open
(either manually) or by remote. I wondered if the CD has simply not
been put in the drawer correctly and has somehow jammed the
mechanisim. Or if it is more likely to be a broken tray mechanic which
will need fixing. I'm pretty clueless to the inside of these boxes so
don't really want to open it up. Have others experienced this - and
have an opinion or a fix. wadia support haven't answered in 2 weeks.
any help appreciated.
best
Kenny
Well, whether a CD was inserted incorrectly and jammed the tray, or the tray
mechanism itself just decided to malfunction, it's a pretty safe bet that the
first step in diagnosing the problem would involve removing the screws holding
the metal case to the chassis and taking a peek inside. I understand that
you're "pretty clueless to the inside of these boxes", but taking the cover off
and taking a look isn't exactly rocket surgery. I myself know very little
about the electronics end of things, but mechanical problems are USUALLY pretty
easy to spot. It MAY be something as simple as the CD jamming the tray. Or it
may be that a belt has broken that operates the tray mechanism. Either one of
these occurances is usually user fixable. If nothing MECHANICAL seems to be
wrong, then it is probably time to take it to a repair shop. Just remember to
unplug the player while taking the cover off. Once the cover is off, plug it
back in and look for any obvious problems. If you spot one, unplug the unit
and try to remedy the apparent problem. Just make sure to keep metallic
objects (such as screwdrivers) away from the insides as much as possible (use
common sense to avoid an electrical shock). Good luck, and keep us posted!
