I'm new to the group and hope this hasn't been covered too recently.
I would like to purchase an external hard drive to use with my laptop,
which is now an iBook, but will soon be a Mac Book Pro. I use the
laptop for 2 track recording, real time performance using software
synths (battery 3, etc) via a DrumKat MIDI controller, and sound
design using either Digital Performer or Logic (any opinions on those
are welcome, too).

I would like to know what external hard drives other folks use. I'm
looking for portability/small size, firewire, fast drive speed, etc,
and low noise level: no loud fans.

I just bought a couple of 500gb Western Digital MyBook drives with the new
upgraded firewire on them. Don't have the interface on my laptop but hooked
it up to a new mac last night and it is blisteringly fast. Have got several
of these drives and would certainly recommend them.
