I have an old pair of Fisher STA-381 stereo speakers
with an integrated stereo amplifier. They have been
connected to a Sony television with standard RCA audio
cables. The TV has left/right Output jacks and matches
the speaker's amplifier left/right Input jacks.
I just recently purchased a new Magnavox TV that only
has SPDIF digital output which is supposed to connect
to a matching DIGITAL INN jack on the rear of a Hi-Fi
system. Of course, the speakers don't have a Digital
Inn jack. Is there a way, converter cable or other means by which
the TV can be connected to the speakers?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Yes, a digital-analog converter (DAC) is what you need.
It's not a big product category these days. They come
built-in with home theater receivers.
I stumbled on a forum discussing this and they said this
was the cheapest available solution.....
and you get headphones that you may not want.

Neat find!
Probably get a used HT receiver at your nearest pawn shop
for less.
Perhaps.
