Yes, but one tends to pay a hefty premium for buying from overseas, where the selection is
better. I doubt there's a much of a groundswell of SACD/DVD-A sales in the USA even when
internet imports are factored in. So I stand by my 'not so much'. If there were a significant
market here, we'd see more popular releases in SACD/DVD-A format. As it stands, we see mainly
niche products domestically, these days, and those are primarily 'classical' recordings: thus
constituting a small part of a an already small market.
But that's exactly where the market is active and international. As
I have opined befo The market for pop/rock releases in hi-rez
and/or multichannel is relatively small, compared to that market
segment at large, and, as a result, the record companies see no
economic value in issuing them except for a few block-busters, as you
have noted.
OTOH, the small (in relative and absolute terms) classical market
seems to support these formats better, perhaps, because of the
demographics of the classical market and, perhaps, because of the
attitudes of the smaller companies that produce them.
